I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone Happy Earth Day. The first Earth Day in 1970, brought one in ten Americans out in peaceful support of protecting the Earth. Subsequent environmental legislation passed including the Clean Water Act (even after a veto from Nixon), the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Endangered Species Act showing there is space on both sides for environmental protection. This also gives me hope as it demonstrated that the real driving force behind political action is still people.
My message is that regardless of political affiliation, the thing that matter most is the health of our family and friends, and our people which is in direct correlation with a healthy environment. The natural world was here many millennia before any political party and it deserves the respect for nurturing us into being.
