“What motivates you?” asked a new acquaintance at a San Diego bar, as he piled books high on the table we shared. This would have been a bizarre question coming from anyone else but this modern day Dharma Bum sitting before me.
“Desert sunsets,” I replied quickly without even a second thought. It was an easy answer as in the past few days I had seen many that fed my soul and renewed my spirits. Winter Desert Sunsets brought a whole new palate of color behind strange silhouettes of cactus figures, the likes of which I had never seen. This was the image that conjured in my mind.
He considered my answer, holding my gaze through his round rim glasses as images of both my past and future desert destinations flipped through my head like an old school reel viewer. I had two weeks to get from Tucson to Ventura, just enough time to get an overview of these twisted rock, cactus scattered landscapes.
