Just above the city there is a pleasant place called the Temple of the Moon. You can hike the stairs behind San Blas past Christo Blanco or take a 70 centivos bus up and around on the road. At the top a peaceful park awaits, with families playing fútbol in the late afternoon Sunday sun. It's a nice surprise to find a little tranquility so close to the chaos of Cusco's urban streets. And I promised myself I would get here more often to unwind. Its so close and easy to get to I really have no excuse not too.
After a late lunch with friends we headed up together. We fooled around and climbed around on the rocks up then down then up again exploring caves and ledges before descending back into the city limits.
I couldn't find any information as to the speculated purpose of these ruins, but we had fun offering up our own historical renditions about what the clean cut stone stairs and terraces were there for.
The clouds were thick and dramatic, a pefect opportunity for photography. Almost always having my camera in tow, I snapped a few photos for keeps. I'm always happy to be out and about taking photos and enjoying the scenery outside of the city.
As always theres plenty more photos... and you can check them out here.
